Modern technology is truly amazing. Just 10 years ago who would've thought that you could have device that does everything the iPhone does. Including locking into a satellite and monitoring the route, speed , time, and distance of a bicycle ride. Truly amazing.

February 27......
Does a morning read of the Monday sports news get any better than this? England stuffed in the Rugby and Arsenal put 5 past their arch enemies in an exquisite display of attacking football not too dissimilar to the Brazilian teams of a bygone era.
Actually it could get better The AFL season could've started in earnest and the mighty Geelong Cats have been playing (and winning as they are wont to do)

| A3 motorway. 11.32 am . So much for the ''Go to the beach '' idea. |
So...I went straight to a Tyre outlet and asked to get the puncture fixed. No go. Low profile tyres start to bead and then shred themselves internally when not filled with air, and to compound matters the weight of a rear mounted engine car will hasten the process when it occurs on a rear tyre as per above. So I ask how much to replace a tyre that I only purchased 3 weeks ago.
£304.00.
£304.00 !!!!????!!! 300 and effing 4 quid for a piece of treaded rubber ??
That got me thinking. Forget gold or silver or any other well sought after commodity, it is clear that it is rubber you need to buy. After all more people use rubber than either gold or silver and probably more than both those combined. So I did some research.
Your average car tyre weighs (according to the Recovery Association) 7.6 kg. That is 268 ounces give or take a little. That's USD $1.80 an ounce. Cheap as chips. Get on board now and don't forget who told you.

When a good friend suggests a quick ride along the Grand Union Canal the first thought that springs to mind is '' It can't be too hard. After all, surely it has to be flat ''
50 km and 3 hours later and after struggling into a strong Westerly wind the mindset was somewhat changed.

| Little wonder his highest score from any one of the 7 judges was 8.5 |
Observations :
1. It took longer to get there than the event itself took. 1 hour 40 versus 1 hour 20.
2. Little to no signage from Main station to Aquatic Centre
3. Entire area is windswept and it sits astride the recently completed 'Westfield Shopping Complex'
( Europe's largest indoor shopping centre )
4. Who on earth allowed the Mittal family to construct that steel mess of a tower ? Perhaps the other question should be - How much did Mittal 'donate' to be allowed to have that mess of a tower constructed ?
5. The interior of the main pool arena is cosy warm
6. Chinese and Japanese have a genetic advantage when it comes to diving
7. Scoring system is relatively easy . 7 judges score out of 10. The lowest 2 and highest 2 are discarded. The total of the remaining 3 is then multiplied by the degree of difficulty of the dive to give the total. Each diver does 6 dives and are ranked by their total score
8. Little wonder I didn't get any tickets for the swimming. This was a test event and even so, 1/4 of the best seats were taken up by coaches and fellow team members. The complex itself is scheduled to hold 17,500 spectators. That is the entire complex. The main pool area wouldn't hold more than 10,000.
9. For an event in the main pool there isn't a bad seat.
10. Security is taken a bit far when they ask you take your sweater off and to put it through an x-ray machine.
11. It will be interesting to see how utilised the area is post-games. Been as it is in the middle of a somewhat socio-economically challenged area of London.
12. This takes the number of 50 metre swimming pools in the UK (England-Wales-Scotland-Northern Ireland) from 23 to 24. And the number of Olympic sized pools (50 metres with 10 lanes ) from 5 to 6 (Australia has 47 pools that meet the Olympic Standard). Yes that is right. 24 pools measuring 50 metres for a population of 61 million people. That's one pool for every 2.54 million people. Makes the achievement of any notable British swimmer even more impressive. Firstly they had to find a pool !

The scene - Unemployed banker enroute to a meeting with recruitment firm takes time out prior to interview to scope the landscape around St Paul's Cathedral which has become a meeting point for the ''Occupy'' movement. Stops momentarily to read a manifesto of sorts that is pinned on the outside of a protestors tent. Moments later he is joined by a protestor exiting a tent who sidles up next to Unemployed Banker. Small change in atmospheric pressure. Unemployed Banker dressed for recruitment meeting. Protestor dressed to protest.
Protestor - ''Not a bad manifesto eh ?''
Unemployed Banker - ''Err nope and half intelligent as well''
Protestor - (Looks Banker up and down) '' You a banker? ''
Banker - ''Err nope. I am unemployed''
Protestor - Cynically laden..''You don't look unemployed''
Unemployed Banker - '' What about you?''
Protestor - ''I am an architect ''
Unemployed Banker - '' Well there you go''
Protestor - ''Well there you go what ?''
Unemployed Banker - ''Well there you go. Looks can be deceiving. You don't look like an architect''
Protestor - '' What does an architect look like ?''
Unemployed Banker - '' Not like you ''
Protestor - '' Mmmmmm''. Grunt. ''Mumble mumble mumble '' and walks away.
