March 20.....

For those of us without Olympic tickets about the only event you can hope to see at this years Olympics is the Cycle Road Race. Ironically it passes through my neighbourhood not once but twice (the second time as the cyclists return from the counties). I decided today to ride a large part of it down into Surrey where the only major hill (Box Hill) on the course is located and one where the cyclists will be asked to do two circuits in order to split the men from the boys before they return to the finish on Pall Mall in central London. 67 km and 3 hours later I had a small insight, (including climbing Box Hill) into what they will be going through.

The start of the Zig Zag Road. Box Hill.  10.53 am

View from atop Box Hill. Surrey. 11.10 am
